VINELLE WINE & WHISKY
Cask Purchase Guide
Private Ownership | Bottling | Resale
Why Buy a Whisky Cask?
Owning a cask of whisky is a unique and personal way to engage with the spirit, whether for future bottling, gifting, or resale. At Vinelle, we don’t chase hype or push speculative “investments.” Instead, we help you acquire a cask that suits your taste, goals, and timeline, with expert guidance and complete legal clarity.
Our Approach
We work with a trusted network of bonded warehouses, distilleries, and bottlers to source exceptional casks, from freshly filled spirit to mature barrels nearing bottling. Ownership is fully secured via Delivery Order, legally transferring title to your name within the bonded warehouse system.
Cask Ownership Options
1. Immediate Bottling- For those looking to bottle right away (e.g. for gifts or private label projects)
2. Mature Hold (Ready in 1–5 Years)- Secure a cask approaching peak maturity (e.g. 27–30 years)- Stored in HMRC-bonded warehouse; annual checks and insurance required
3. New Make Spirit- Lowest upfront cost - 3 years +1 day –15+ years in barrel before bottling
Legal & Compliance Essentials (UK, 2025)
Bonded Warehouse Storage is required — casks cannot legally be moved or bottled until duty is paidDelivery Order is essential — this is your legal proof of ownership (not just a certificate)WOWGR registration no longer required for private individuals or non-trading companiesNo 24-year storage limit — casks can remain in bond indefinitelyABV must stay above 40% — to legally remain Scotch whiskyScotch must be bottled in Scotland under strict labeling and excise controls
Bottling & Resale
When you’re ready, we can assist with independent bottling — under your name or a co-branded label. If circumstances change, we can broker your cask for resale, subject to re-gauge and sample.
Factors affecting value:- Liquid volume remaining- ABV and age- Distillery and cask size- Regional style (e.g. Speyside vs. Lowlands)
Start the Conversation
Whether you're new to casks or a seasoned collector, we're here to guide you through every step — from sourcing to sipping.
